The Most Important Discovery of Our Times

Archive of the Strange and the Dead - Chronicle of Janis' Bogus Adventure

Janis has found her own personal Jesus in Lessans and strives to carry his word.

This is not about proselytising, or any such thing. This is not about a belief or a dogma. Nothing at all. I am carrying his knowledge. It never was about him; but rather the law of our nature he discovered.
==========================================

As for giving credit, I give credit where credit is due.

Of course you do. And credit is due here. So pay up Solid.
===========================================

It is not we who are unbending, we have listened we have probed, we have inquired, we have debated and discussed and all came to the exact same conclusion. However, you hold to this that you cannot even clearly deliver. Who is close minded now?

You haven't really listened. The second someone disagreed, you jumped all over me as if this changes anything. It only shows me how ignorant people are because they want to be in the limelight; they want to be the ones that are smart. They don't want me to have something of value. Believe me; it is a game of wits. But preventing war and crime is not a game at all. :(
===============================================

Solid, we were on the right track and suddenly you had to run to the nearest university like a security blanket. Why can't you continue asking questions like you did before. They were good questions. Then you started cursing just like everyone else. Did you have pixie dust on you or something? What caused the change? You have to think for yourself. :wink:

You want so badly something of "your own" to believe in don't you? How has this "knowledge" changed your life Janis? Has anyone been able to utilize this "power"? Or is it still in the propaganda phase?

Your avatar is so menacing. Yea, of course I want something badly for this world; doesn't everybody? The fact that I know I have something makes me all the more frustrated; don't you see? But I didn't go searching for this knowledge. It was put in my lap.

I must do something to bring it to light. The power is in this law because it prevents everyone from desiring to strike a first blow. We will not need punishment and prisons and police and lawyers if we can get people to stop hurting others? And we can. It's hard to imagine a world where we don't need punishment because we have always lived in this type of world; a world of blame and punishment. We can't even envision such a world so I get tomatoes thrown at me. But this law is that powerful.

This is not propaganda. I am not in a cult. I am not trying to get you to join anything. I do not want charity or money or to inculcate anyone. I am just demonstrating a law of man's nature. Why is that so surprising?

Your avatar is so menacing.

It's suppose to be. Demo Dick never fails.

Maybe people don't want to stop hurting each other.

I don't see this work saving the world. Call me close minded, call me conditioned by Acadamia, call me whatever the fuck you want but what I see is nothing earthshattering.

I don't expect you to find this earthshattering if you don't understand it. You may have a block against understanding this knowledge if it goes against a strong belief system. That is why the religous people would hate this book and so would politicians. But I don't see that with you. You still never answered me though. Why is man's will not free, and what is the two-sided equation. After you answer me correct, we can go from there. Deal?

What is this a book review quiz?

Lessans asserts that people always choose what satisfies them best. Then you get to his whole Thou Shalt Not Blame game. He rants on about stupid Ph.D's...blah blah...mathematical undeniability (provides no equations)....bashes Will Durant on his free will/determinism views for being non-mathematical, although neither are his...has a talk with a Rabii....rambles on some more about stupid university trained people....tosses god around as being the revealer of truth...blah, blah...must I continue this?

If you don't like what I have to say about the material, cease telling me how my opinion is always wrong. The only difference between you and a religious zealot is that they use god where you use Lessan's work. They wish to save all humanity, so do you. They will to bring the word of God, you wish to bring "the knowledge" to everyone. They say the word will bring eternal peace and harmony, you say "the knowledge" will bring eternal peace and harmony. You couldn't find what you wanted in convential religion, so go out and quell that need by latching onto something else and viola....you have the book which I'm sure you'll defend no matter the cost.

Have you sought professional counseling?

It's funny how, as soon as someone tells Janis that it's crap (i.e. everyone who's bothered to read and comment on it), she responds with "You don't understand it!" It's funny that this "knowledge" is supposed to spread throughout the world and change it dramatically for the better but nobody in this collection of fairly smart people can understand it. If this "knowledge" is so damned hard to understand, how is it supposed to catch on sufficiently to save humanity from itself?

Of course, the reason we don't understand it is that we're closed-minded and conditioned to reject fresh and original thinking. We're bigots. It couldn't possibly be because Lessans' ideas are incoherent or that Janis hasn't presented them clearly. The reason we call it horseshit could never be that it is horseshit. After all, Janis grew up with this knowledge; the beliefs she's held since childhood could not be wrong. Instead, there must be something wrong with all of us.

Damned closed-minded willful-ignoramuses! :twisted:
People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs.

Okay, you read part of it but you still did not explain in any of your explanations why man's will is not free. You talk about satisfaction, but why does that make man's will not free and free will false. Forget everything else Solid. Let's stick to the facts right now.
==========================================

If you don't like what I have to say about the material, cease telling me how my opinion is always wrong.

It is wrong. You are the one that is not sticking to the material. You are trying in every which way to make him wrong; and you cannot do it because he isn't wrong. lol
==========================================

The only difference between you and a religious zealot is that they use god where you use Lessan's work. They wish to save all humanity, so do you. They will to bring the word of God, you wish to bring "the knowledge" to everyone. You couldn't find what you wanted in convential religion, so go out and quell that need by latching onto something else and viola....you have the book which I'm sure you'll defend no matter the cost.

You know Solid, if I didn't know what I had I might believe you. You are good, but you are solid wrong. Your hypotheses failed the test because I am anything but a zealot without back up. I am zealous, I admit, but I have good reason to be. There is a way to bring peace without dogmatism, religion or anything that gets you to take sides. I don't take sides that 1+1=2. It is a fact, and it works when it is applied to the real world. So does this knowledge; but you have yet to see that because you are still blinded by your anger at me that I won't back down. NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS, SOLIDSQUID. HATE ME FOR IT.

It's funny how, as soon as someone tells Janis that it's crap (i.e. everyone who's bothered to read and comment on it), she responds with "You don't understand it!"

But they don't NoDeity. That is a fact.

==============================================
It's funny that this "knowledge" is supposed to spread throughout the world and change it dramatically for the better but nobody in this collection of fairly smart people can understand it.

So? Who understood anyone when they bucked the system. You're no different although I have to give you credit...you are definitely trying. :)
==========================================

If this "knowledge" is so damned hard to understand, how is it supposed to catch on sufficiently to save humanity from itself?

Let is start with you. You haven't even come close to understanding it because you are still so skeptical that you won't let your guard down. If you, who are the gatekeepers of knowledge, can't even give me the benefit of the doubt, can you imagine the religious fanatics, the politicians, the lawyers, or anyone involved in the justice system? This may take much longer than I ever thought. I must accept that; but it doens't make this knowledge inaccurate. :cry:
=============================================

Of course, the reason we don't understand it is that we're closed-minded and conditioned to reject fresh and original thinking. We're bigots.

No, you are just misguided. Can't you accept that possibility? I know you are trying which is the reason why I am staying here as long as I am.

============================================

It couldn't possibly be because Lessans' ideas are incoherent or that Janis hasn't presented them clearly.

Maybe I haven't expressed this knowledge clearly; but don't you see, I get no legitimate questions. You have an agenda and you don't realize it. As open minded as you want to be, you still have an agenda. I forgive you.
============================================

The reason we call it horseshit could never be that it is horseshit. After all, Janis grew up with this knowledge; the beliefs she's held since childhood could not be wrong. Instead, there must be something wrong with all of us.

Huh, I knew it was coming. I knew someone would bring up the fact that I grew up with this knowledge so the conclusion is that I must be wrong; that I was brainwashed in some way. No, I wasn't. And there is nothing wrong with me and there is nothing wrong with you all. There is a lack of clear thinking where this book is concerned. I am not blaming you for this.
===========================================

Damned closed-minded willful-ignoramuses!

That was below the belt, NoDeity. :cry:

So why doesn't this wonderful knowledge work for you? You supposedly understand it so intimately.

Whoever said it doesn't work for me. It has made me a very tolerant, compassionate, and understanding person. It has helped me in my personal life in many wonderful ways. I don't know where I'd be without the knowledge in this book. But in order for it to make a difference worldwide, this knowledge has to be acknowledged as undeniable for it to be applied on a worldwide level. Then, our world will veer in a completely different direction and peace will be within our reach at last!

Has it led you to greater satisfaction? Or was it not what you really wanted but what you "thought" you "should do"? Has kept others from "striking the first blow" to you?

Has it led you to greater satisfaction?

Having the understanding of man's nature that I do has helped me be a forgiving kind of person. Since I am compelled to do what I am doing, it has also caused me great frustration. Solid, you need more explanation on this part; I can see that.
==========================================

Or was it not what you really wanted but what you "thought" you "should do"? Has kept others from "striking the first blow" to you?

No, Solid, you aren't getting it. It has nothing to do with what I should do. I want to do it because I know if I don't, no one else can. So I feel compelled. I am moving in the direction of greater satisfaction although I don't love being in this position. But I have no choice.
============================================

[sarcasm]You just keep telling yourself everything's gonna be okay.[/sarcasm]

Everything is going to be okay, but it may take a long time especially if people misconstrue what is written. Since you are so sure I am wrong, Solid, give me an example where man is not moving in this direction. Show me!

If I want to do something I WILL do it; but it takes two to tango. Why am I sub-human? Explain Franky. I love you too. lol
