H.R.5741 -- Universal National Service Act (Introduced in House - IH)

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

July 15, 2010

Mr. RANGEL introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Armed Services

A BILL

To require all persons in the United States between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform national service, either as a member of the uniformed services or in civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, to authorize the induction of persons in the uniformed services during wartime to meet end-strength requirements of the uniformed services, and for other purposes.
"Let us remember that no man can borrow money, as a good business transaction, under any system, unless he has the required security to make the lender whole in case he should lose the money. What a stupendous wrong is this—that a man having credit cannot use it, but must exchange it and pay a monopoly price, which is really for the privilege of using his own credit!"

The world is gearing up for a showdown. Computers have given rise to a new era where production can be moved to countries with the cheapest labour, goods shipped to countries with the strongest currency, creating incredible social pressure in those rich nations on job creation and social participation, and creating xenophobia between people of different nations, the rich for immigrants taking their jobs, the poor for the rich living more sedentery lifestyles.

The spread of information has made political correctness endemic, meaning that most people keep their feelings private but secretly harbour the same old animosities, now festering without release. Disillusionment with politics is more widespread than ever, given the patently obvious lack of intent to actually change anything that people are now ever more aware of.

Global access to technology means that the difference between different countries is being reduced. We see North Korea and Iran trying to build nukes or nuclear power stations, China putting up or shooting down satellites, etc. Each is clamoring to elevate itself to be more than it is, to contravene the established order. There are too many people in the world who want the world to suit them better, and technology is ticket to get there.

In response to this global activism, an increase in militarization is inevitable. For every pose there is a repose, for every advance a new determination. Humanity will come to face its own depravity as they witness it in others. Who will turn around and say, how did we get here?

The balance of power is teetering. Just remember, ye fools, as you strut on the battlefield to defend your homes, you are shooting yourselves.
