so yeah, the other day i was chillin in the tent when my squad leader called out several names, including mine, and told us that we were going to meet a "VIP." from then until i saw him, me and my friends were speculating pretty hardcore on how likely it was that it was actually him. we were thinking, well, he's in turkey, which is probably like a 30 minute flight from baghdad for him. we had to give up our weapons, and had to go through a metal detector when we were entering the palace. there was a sniper perched on the roof and dozens of soldiers standing around with their weapons locked and loaded.
by the time he entered the building, we'd been standing there for a hot minute. before you knew it there were tons of people with their cameras up in the air, taking pictures. i shoved my way through the crowd, and bam, there was fucking president barack obama. now matter how i feel about the guy, i was star struck. he eventually came out and gave a typical politician speech, about how we're the best and the brightest, we've made life better for the iraqis, he's looking out for the military families, etc. at one point this chick screams, "i love you!!" and without hesitating he shouts, "i love you back!" it was pretty cool. everyone was really excited.
i'm glad i was able to see the state personified up, close and personal after deconverting. it was quite surreal, indeed.

lay off me nuts vertigo.
