Well, it's certainly time... the Vatican, in its traditional style, will be issuing a late acknowledgement for its role in atrocities everyone already knew it had a part in. I guess they feel its safe now, since all the preists they would have had to shield and protect are dead now. Of course, no one knows if the pope will even issue an apology (not very suprising), but I guess we should be satisfied that the Church even acknowledged its role. This of course follows the apology of the Canadian government last year for its role in residential schools, while continuing to promote and expand policies which provides Aboriginals a quality of life which can be described as nothing less than third-world, as well as concentrating power in the hands of corrupt Indian leaders, who live lavish lifestyles while supressing their own people (see: http://www.nytimes.com/2001/01/01/world ... wanted=all).
I hope one day the Aboriginal people will wake up and realize what a problem the govenrment and their tribal leaders are. To me it seems that federal aid is the opium of the aborginals, we need to eliminate the federal support program for aboriginals, eliminate the reserve system and Indian Act, and allow these people to determine their own futures.
