WTF is going on in Thailand?

So I was browsing Wikileaks.org as I tend to do, and I come across this little article:

The page has a link to a video of "highlights" of some party for the Thai Crown Prince's dog, and his fucking WIFE, the Thai Crown Princess, is topless in a g-string being served food by servants.

What the fuuuuuuuuuuuck is going on in Thailand?

The irony here is that I personally don't consider being topless to be any big deal, nor should people be forbidden to go topless, even if they are bloodsucking monarchs. But when we take into account the expected social norms of Thailand and the expected solemnity of the monarchy, I wonder what the fuck is going on with these people?

I mean, I always used to think that monarchs, more or less, believed their own lies, and believed in the absolute truth of their silly arbitrary social norms. Of course there was the occasional Papal orgy and King's mistress etc, but overall monarchs had lamer sex-and-party lives than most Eddie Punchclocks.

So what the fuck is with this official party for the prince's dog with his wife hanging around topless? And obviously the Thai monarchy is aware that this kind of thing is frowned upon by their subjects because they have tried really hard to suppress this video.

My mind is swimming with confusion... I can't figure out if these people really do believe their own bullshit or if they are a bunch of perverts and hedonists who laugh quietly at the stupid social customs they enforce on the public.

I think it's just a case of one standard for the masses and another for the parasites who rule.

other than the gross amount of wealth I would hardly call it a party. it seemed pretty domestic.

Thais do take their monarchy quite seriously. The King is basically the people's protection from the military.

Best case; Prince knows that once he's King, the party is over. So its now or never.

Ok fine, but last tiem I checked this whole thing was causing an uproar in Thailand among the socialites, and the Thai government has been working hard to remove this video from the intertubes. Wikileaks is the only place you can get it.

So does that not imply some kind of shame on the royal family? Are they not aware that they broke their own (silly) norms?
