Well, maybe I don't know.

It was my recollection that he was into the magic scene for somewhat the same reason as Houdini; he really wanted evidence, and he was willing to dredge past all the bullshit to find it.

Now he's old, and he's nearly at the bottom of the pile...and if his motivation was akin to Houdini's...

Well, he's pretty outspoken these days about being an atheist and about expecting there not to be any "other side". So, if he was ever really hoping to find evidence of such things, he's past that now.

So is Roger Ebert, surprisingly. He deconverted and is now a cheerful atheist.

That's cool. He always seemed to have a good critical eye.

It seems like his deconversion was a very slow process. From around 2003 onwards there are quotes of him being more distant towards religion as a whole. But he only really came out recently.

It's interesting to me that you followed Ebert so closely. Why do you think it is that you cared enough to keep track of that?

By the way, Randi has come out. He's gay.

Apparently, it was an open secret. Lots of people knew and many others suspected. I neither knew nor suspected. I'd like to think that it's not so much that I've got lousy "gaydar" but, rather, that I don't care. After all, what he and his partner of many years do or don't do behind closed doors is none of my business.

Why, yes. Yes it is. If you don't believe in the paranormal/supernatural, you're probably gay.

Actually, the dudes who claimed gayness was genetic proved to be doing inferior science.

In that case, JREF would actually be against 'the gay agenda.'

The problem with 'the gay agenda' is that there are two entire homosexual groups on the opposite sides of most political issues; gay dudes and lesbians.
